Don't know if I can put the journey of the past four months into words but I'm gonna give it a shot...
What started of as an idea sparked by a suggestion has turned into a pretty decent piece of theater and a trip over familiar yet freshly tilled ground. The first read through/performance in June called for long endurance—last Thursday's event was a time for letting go and moving into enjoyment.
The setting—my church parish hall—was friendly and filled with supportive short and longtime friends from many different parts of life. With the help of experience and my trusty muse the moments came and moved from one to the next and then...it was accomplished.
Acting, a part of my daily life for over thirty years, had moved well below the surface for the past ten. And although it is not surging the way it once was—these performing arts have returned as a friend to stand beside me and grant me opportunity to reach out, feel and taste—using senses, mind and heart... Now, I am reunited, loving and enjoying all the bits and pieces that have blessed me so often in the past.
A wonderful evening. Forty and a few lovely individuals in the seats with Van Lingle Mungo on the platform—holding forth for about an hour and twenty minutes. The cuts and revisions Jim and I had made after the first reading held together and so we are left with MUNGO! a play in one act.
Many thanks for the gracious and enthusiastic comments from those gathered—much love washed around that room...
Another step onto new ground is next—a search for a venue to mount a production of MUNGO! even as we send our offering to festivals and competitions around the land...and in the meantime—I am filled with gratitude. Overflowing. And looking forward...
